Air Filtech has just completed the installation of a central dust collection system for a large-scale steel structure fabrication workshop in Dong Nai Province, serving 18 MIG/MAG welding stations and 6 plasma cutting stations operating simultaneously.
The workshop covers a total area of 4,800 m² with an 8 m high metal roof. Before the upgrade, the measured respirable dust concentration in the workshop reached 8.2 mg/m³ — more than twice the limit set by QCVN 02:2019/BYT (3 mg/m³). Workers frequently complained of red eyes, coughing, and breathing difficulties. The workshop had also received 2 warnings from labor authorities within 12 months.
Air Filtech’s Solution
- Central ducting system: 24 stainless steel branch ducts, Ø150 mm, designed with pressure balancing (ΔP balancing) to ensure each welding station receives adequate airflow of 1,800 m³/h.
- Camfil Gold Series cartridge dust collector: capacity of 36,000 m³/h, using PTFE membrane filter media, with filtration efficiency ≥99.97% for particles ≥0.3 µm.
- Automatic pulse-jet cleaning mechanism: compressed-air pulse cycle every 6 seconds, maintaining stable filtration performance without stopping the system.
- HEPA H13 after-filter: ensures treated air reaches a high level of cleanliness before being discharged into the environment.
Results Achieved
After 30 days of operation, testing showed:
- Respirable dust concentration in the workshop dropped to 1.4 mg/m³ — an 83% reduction compared to before the upgrade.
- Total airborne manganese (Mn) concentration < 0.05 mg/m³, within control limits.
- Marked improvement in working conditions, with reduced eye and respiratory irritation among workers.
- Labor authorities confirmed the workshop meets occupational health and safety requirements.
